Graduate Student Tawny Virgilio Wins Second Place in Oral Presentation Competition
Ecology and Environmental Science graduate student Tawny Virgilio was the Second Prize winner in the Gerald N. Lanier Graduate Student Forum Oral Presentation Competition. Her presentation was titled, “Maximizing the Efficiency of Monitoring for the Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) in Maine by Understanding the Behavior of Cerceris fumipennis and its Application in Biosurveillance.” She discussed her work in tracking the emerald ash borer which is a highly destructive invasive wood-boring beetle which has spread to 15 mid and northeastern states and 2 Canadian Provinces. The competition took place at the 74th Annual Northeast Forest Pest Council Meeting on April 4th and 5th at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
