SBE/EES Ph.D. student Griffin Dill speaks to WMTW about rare tick-borne illness

From UMaine News: WMTW (Channel 8 in Portland) interviewed Griffin Dill, University of Maine Tick Lab coordinator, after the Maine CDC confirmed a Waldo County resident died after contracting Powassan virus. “It is an exceptionally serious tick-borne illness. Fortunately, it’s also an exceptionally rare illness. Historically, studies in Maine show that (there are) fairly low levels of this virus in our tick population. Somewhere around maybe 1% of ticks that are sampled test positive.”  Click to view the clip on WMTW’s website.
