Electron Microscopy Laboratory
The Electron Microscopy Laboratory maintains a Zeiss NVision 40 FIB-SEM, an Amray 1820 SEM, a
Technai T12 TEM and two confocal microscopes: an Olympus Fluoview 1000 (inverted) and a Leica SP2
(upright). We offer training and guidance in preparing your samples for these types of microscopy and
can also prepare your samples and obtain your data for you if needed.
Research Topic: Tardigrades, Taxonomy, Electron and Light Microscopy
Research Program: In my personal research I study the biodiversity of Maine tardigrades. This includes
using integrated taxonomy as we discover new species around us. As these creatures are small
(averaging ~300um) microscopy (both light and electron) is involved in all steps of studying these
charismatic microinvertebrates.
