College of NSFA Honors SBE Faculty and Students
School of Biology and Ecology faculty were honored with a number of awards at the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture awards ceremony. Seanna Annis, whose research focuses on the diseases affecting Maine’s wild blueberries, received the 2011 NSFA Agriculture Award. Andre Alyokhin, who researches potato insect pest management and ecology of invasive insect species, received the NSFA Outstanding Public Service Award. Rebecca Holberton, a leader in the field of stress physiology and its measurement in birds, received the 2011 NSFA Outstanding Research Award.
In addition to faculty awards, SBE graduate students were also recognized. Venura Herath, a Ph.D. student studying cellular and molecular responses to low-temperature stresses in plants, received The Norris Charles Clements Graduate Student Award. Allison Byrd, a M.S. student studying productivity of common loons, was honored as a distinguished nominee for the Edith Patch Award.
